10 Picks Over Three Days.....73 Total in the Cupboard Now

2024-09-05

Toronto – Toronto Maple Leafs GM George MacIntyre was busy again during the 2024 SIMHL Draft. Multiple trades (Three Total) over the last three days and the Leafs end up with 10 prospects to add to the cupboard. 3 Forwards, 5 Defencemen, 2 Goalies were picked on the day. The Leafs have 73 prospects Total in the system now. Rd 1 (26th Overall) – F Trevor Connelly (2006) Rd 1 (30th Overall) – D Stian Solberg (2005) Rd 2 (43rd Overall) – F Andrew Basha (2005) Rd 2 (56th Overall) – D Henry Mews (2006) Rd 2 (58th Overall) – D Spencer Gill (2006) Rd 2 (61st Overall) – F Max Plante (2006) Rd 3 (75th Overall) – D Will Skahan (2006) Rd 4 (115th Overall) – G Dmitry Gamzin (2003) Rd 5 (139th Overall) – G Ryerson Leenders (2006) Rd 5 (150th Overall) – D Jakub Fibigr (2006) The picks were a combination of high risk and safe throughout the draft. The highlight of the draft class is definitely the two late first round selections: Connelly considered to be one of the most talented/skilled players in the draft. Elite skating and finishing. Top 5-10 pick if not for some off-ice concerns. Many teams steered clear because of these. Stian Solberg is at the other end of the spectrum. Rugged. Safe. Physical. Solberg considered one of the most NHL ready prospects in this class physically. Overall Toronto is very happy with the haul. Time will tell what they have.
